Rockstar finances research in Florida with strip clubs and nightclubs for GTA VI

The developers of GTA VI immersed themselves in the atmosphere of southern Florida, leading a thorough research that involved visits to strip clubs, bars, nightclubs and Everglades. As reported by MobiDevices.com and confirmed by the senior vice president of Rockstar narrative, Rupert Humphries, in an interview with Game Informer, the team supported these expenses – including drinks and entertainment – as an integral part of their work. The goal was to recreate with the utmost precision the region of Leonida within the game, capturing the essence of different neighborhoods, local people and lifestyle. The developers spent years in Florida, exploring swamps, mangroves, beaches and even traveling in the night neighborhoods along with former police officers. This approach was translated into the creation of playable characters: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. The research has had a significant impact on the history of GTA VI, shaping the imaginary setting of Leonida, its inhabitants, criminal plots and the general atmosphere. Rockstar has particularly valued the contrasts between rich and poor areas, different communities and the surrounding environment, reflecting the social dynamics presented in the game. The NPCs will be distinguished by specific physical characteristics related to the regions in which they live and tattoo styles will be closely linked to local culture. A dedicated team was employed in the development of jokes of non-playing characters, ensuring a complete immersion in the GTA VI universe. The game will be released on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
