Rockstar and Netflix: a movie or a series on GTA VI? The possibilities explored.

The choice of Rockstar Games to distribute the long preview of Grand Theft Auto VI exclusively time on Netflix is an unusual move for the gaming industry. Usually, the trailers are uploaded to YouTube and shared widely, aiming at the maximum possible spread. Rockstar knows that GTA VI is not a game like others, but the object of the desire of millions of fans who have been waiting for years to play. What if the deal with the streaming giant hides something more? The hypothesis of a movie or series inspired by the franchise cannot be excluded. All the latest Grand Theft Autos (say 3D) present a film setting, especially for the campaign to be tackled in singles, with a narrative system reminiscent of the screenplays of a feature film, as demonstrated by the cutscenes of intermezzo between one mission and the other. Can we imagine that the close collaboration between the two realities is a prelude to what will come later? Netflix has the means to deal with such a production, but Rockstar Games' perfectionism, known for its long livelihoods (which moved the GTA 6 out of over a year and a half), would hardly accept content if not considered to be up to its quality standards. The launch date is set for 19 November: 103 days are missing. The preview of the title will be available on Netflix on August 27 at 21, exclusively temporary, before being released on YouTube six hours later. L’ambientazione, simile a sceneggiature di lungometraggi come le cutscene intermedie del gioco, rende plausibile l'idea di una serie TV – soprattutto se si considera il focus della trama su Jason Duval e Lucia Caminos: un coinvolgimento in una cospirazione criminale che, a giudicare dai concept art rilasciati su Netflix, promette di essere altrettanto intricata e moralmente ambigua quanto le precedenti iterazioni del franchise. Il fatto che l'anteprima si concentri su questi due personaggi, potenzialmente chiave nella trama, è un indizio importante, quasi certamente legato alle dinamiche della storia principale raccontata da Cal Hampton e Raul Bautista. La domanda resta se questa strategia di anteprime parziali sia frutto di una scelta artistica o di una misura per mitigare le aspettative alimentate dall'attesa dilazionata, il che, in effetti, può anche essere un modo per mantenere alta l'attenzione fino al 19 novembre e sfruttare la portata di Netflix per raggiungere un pubblico ancora più vasto.
