GTA VI: Knee industry – The videoludic calendar under siege

There is something deeply abnormal in the videoludic calendar of autumn 2026. Just take a look at the scheduled exits between September and October to realize that industry is experiencing an unprecedented situation. New IPs, expected sequel, historical franchise returns and AAA productions seem to have been compressed within just eight weeks. Such a high concentration of important titles has not been seen for years. And the reason is under the eyes of all: in November comes GTA VI. You don't have to add anything else. The whole industry seems to have moved like a pack of animals that perceives the arrival of a predator. Everyone tried to get away from the same launch window, but ended up massing in the same two months. The result? A literally explosive calendar. The fear of GTA 6 is stronger than any commercial strategy. When we talk about Grand Theft Auto VI, we don't just talk about a long-awaited video game. It is probably about the greatest commercial event the medium has ever known. A title that, even before its release, managed to influence corporate strategies, launch windows and publishing plans of a good part of the video industry. Rockstar Games has built over the years something that goes far beyond the concept of successful franchise. Grand Theft Auto has become a cultural phenomenon able to monopolize the attention of the entire sector. Each trailer generates millions of views, every information dominates social networks and every announcement is resumed by the world's leading media. A media power no other publisher can boast. For this reason almost nobody wants to be on his way! Publishing a video game in November 2026 would mean asking attention at a time when the whole world will speak exclusively of GTA 6. It would mean competing against a media machine destined to dominate Twitch, YouTube, TikTok and specialized information for weeks. A battle that many publishers consider lost even before they start. But there is also a more critical reflection to do. The collective fear that is pushing publishers to avoid November shows how the modern market has become dependent on a few colossus capable of catalysing the interest of the public. In theory, a healthy industry should be able to support larger outputs simultaneously. In practice, it seems that the attention of players is such a limited resource to force everyone to escape. And this is perhaps the most impressive demonstration of Rockstar's strength. GTA 6 has not yet come out, but has already conditioned the behaviour of the entire industry. In a way, his first win came long before day one. September and October have become a battlefield.
