The projections on Grand Theft Auto VI's revenues make a new record for Rockstar Games. The 2025 is predicted as the year of the huge AAA games, with titles like Death Stranding 2, Doom: The Dark Ages, Avowed and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows intended to embellish player platforms around the world. However, none of the AAA titles released in 2025 are more anticipated than Grand Theft Auto VI. After a decade of silence, Rockstar finally unveiled GTA 6 with a trailer debut in December 2023, which accumulated over 230 million views and demonstrates the huge appetite of players for the new chapter of the saga. According to an estimate of DFC Intelligence, Grand Theft Auto VI could cash well $3.2 billion within the first 12 months of its release, including an estimated pre-order of approximately $1 billion. By comparison, Avatar (2009), the biggest cashout of all time, earned 2.9 billion dollars throughout his life. If GTA VI exceeds Avatar’s earnings over a year, it would be an extraordinary result. DFC Intelligence also provides that, if GTA 6 reaches $3 billion in the first year, the game will surpass GTA V during its existence, thanks to the possible release on PCs away from consoles, which would allow Rockstar to significantly increase sales. At the moment, GTA V has sold over 200 million copies and generated more than $8.6 billion, with GTA Online that significantly contributes, as demonstrated by the $500 million cashed in only 2022. It is expected that the addition of the multiplayer component to GTA 6, once released along with the single-player experience, will give further boost to the overall gains of the title. The actual release dates of GTA VI remain to be seen and if Rockstar decides to postpone the release of the game, as many fans fear, since there were no significant updates from the trailer of 2023.
