GTA VI on Switch 2? An Ex Rockstar Svela Your Opinion

The question whether Grand Theft Auto VI will ever have a version for Nintendo Switch 2 has returned to argue, thanks to an unexpected intervention. Jérémy Hartvick, former developer of Rockstar Games, expressed his opinion in the YouTube channel podcast Kiwi Talkz, as Dexerto reports. The title, expected for November 19, 2026 after two referrals, is currently only confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, without indications on the PC version or on that for the new Nintendo console. Hartvick bases his assessment mainly on the intended audience for GTA VI. According to the former developer, true fans of the series will get a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, making it unlikely to have a porting on Switch 2 that would not reach a sufficient base. "I'm not convinced that the GTA VI audience matches Switch's," he said. However, the argument collides with concrete precedents: titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal and Elden Ring Tarnished Edition were released on the Switch family, as well as the Grand Theft Auto collection: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition always from Rockstar. This shows that the theme of compatibility with Nintendo is not new. Hartvick also emphasizes the technical challenges represented by the game: a huge open world that runs at 30 fps on current consoles, and the goal of reaching the 60 fps that already represents a challenge. "Does it make sense to strive to offer a likely lower experience, when anyone would buy a PS5 to play? No," he concludes. Despite this, it does not completely exclude the possibility of expanding supported platforms through cloud gaming, waiting for official communications from Rockstar after the launch scheduled for November. The price factor remains a key element: Switch 2 remains more accessible than Microsoft and Sony consoles, with an ever-growing installed base. Right now, Rockstar hasn't made any statements about this.
