GTA VI: Rockstar Bets on Netflix for Global Trailer – An Unexpected Alliance

Rockstar Games is redefining marketing rules for Grand Theft Auto VI. Abandoning traditional channels, the company aims to reach a potentially huge audience by collaborating with Netflix. The next taste of GTA 6, a world premiere gameplay reveal, will be available on August 27, 2026 at 21:00 (Italian time) exclusively on the streaming platform. The operation is aimed at exploiting the 325 million Netflix subscribers, an unimaginable user basin that includes not only video game enthusiasts, but also a vast audience that enjoys television content and movies. The idea is to create a global cultural phenomenon, transforming the launch of GTA VI into an event that everyone can participate in. The trailer will be featured on the front line between TV series and Netflix movies, offering a privileged showcase for a game that promises to make history. This move is a daring attempt to reach even the so-called "casual gamers", that is occasional players who buy sports titles or shooters only occasionally. In support of this strategy, a Newzoo study in 2024 revealed that 69% of PC and console owners don’t actively search for new games, suggesting the need for developers to “port” their titles directly to users. The alliance between Rockstar Games and Netflix is part of an ever-changing landscape, where streaming is becoming increasingly important in the gaming industry. For years, Netflix has been offering free mobile games to its subscribers and is now investing heavily in cloud gaming, allowing users to play on any device via browser or Smart TV. This collaboration with Rockstar Games could further accelerate cloud gaming adoption and open new opportunities for the video game industry.
