The upcoming release of GTA VI, scheduled for 19 November 2026, could complicate the ambitions of the game at The Game Awards 2026. During a live show, Alanah Pearce has raised doubts about the possibilities that the Rockstar title is making awards, underlining the overlap between the release and deadlines for nominations. The actress, author of video games and former journalist of the field, has evidenced as historically the term for the admissibility of the games is placed around the date of launch. The case of 2025, with the expiry fixed on 21 November (two days after the expected date for GTA VI), feeds speculations on the chances of victory of GOTY, although not confirming the deadlines of this edition. The main problem concerns the time available to complete the game and vote for the nominations: such a narrow window could force the jurors to express themselves without having fully experienced the adventure. This also raises doubts about the qualification assessment process and the possibility of an in-depth analysis prior to the delivery of preferences. To solve the situation, several hypotheses were advanced: Geoff Keighley may postpone voting deadlines to give more time to jurists, or Rockstar Games may provide early access to the jury members. Such a move would allow a more complete assessment of the adventure before the official launch. The eventual exclusion would open the prospect of an application in 2027, in conjunction with the possible debut of the online mode of the same year, which could bring attention to the game even after the release of the main experience.
