The Miami Heat will change its name for one night and become Vice City. The NBA team announced on Friday the event "A Night in Vice City", scheduled on November 18, 2026 at the Kaseya Center in Miami against the Milwaukee Bucks, on the eve of the release of Grand Theft Auto VI set for November 19. The operation originates from a direct agreement with Rockstar Games and aims to make the game debut coincide with one of the most followed sporting events in the city, as the game will air on ESPN. It's not just a name change on the board. For that evening the parquet will be replaced by a specially built field, named "The Vice City Court", while the players will wear an unpublished uniform that will be unveiled later. The franchise also promised special programming, live events and themed activations scattered around the arena, with two ball at 7:00 local and tickets for sale on Ticketmaster. The official presentation talks about "an historical partnership" and "an event never realized before" on the eve of the launch. The call is accompanied by the Vice City Collection, a clothing line already available in the team's store: t-shirts starting from 45 dollars, snapback caps of 50 and prices that reach up to 110 dollars for the most expensive garments, with some models sold out within a few hours. The initiative is part of a campaign that Rockstar is building on the territory and not only on digital channels. In September a helicopter installed on the roof of the Kaseya Center gigantic pink letters with the word "Welcome to Vice City", visible to those who land at the Miami International Airport. The agreement, reported by the Miami Herald, is worth 975.000 dollars and has been approved directly by the mayor of the county of Miami-Dade, Daniella Levine Cava, without passing from the vote of the commissioners: the threshold that would make mandatory the passage in council is in fact a million dollars. The choice raised criticism, because some local administrators challenge the idea of linking public goods to an imaginary identity built on crime and violence. On the contrary, on the sports front the appointment has already its own weight: it will be the first challenge of Giannis Antetokounmpo against the Bucks after the transfer to Miami in the last offseason. For Take-Two and Rockstar is the second shot of a promotional strategy out of the box, after the Extended Look released exclusively on Netflix. GTA 6, set in the fictional state of Leonida inspired by Florida, reports the series to Vice City after twenty years and arrives at the finish line after several referrals.
