Modder Create a Mod connecting GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas

As we learned last time on this project, a modder had managed to run Grand Theft Auto III in a television within Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, then stacking Grand Theft Auto: Vice City inside that. Dryxio has now pushed a lot further, adding portals on Grove Street to allow players to enter and exit carrying and playing like Claude in Liberty City and Tommy Vercetti in Vice City. Each game remains sealed in its container and must never know about the existence of the other, although, based on the video, it is currently possible for CJ to shoot law enforcement forces and hit them at Liberty City. With that said, it seems that the modder does not intend to stop improving the mod in any way. According to Dryxio, it is possible for CJ to move from one game to another, to the point where he could literally find himself driving a car in Los Santos, cross a portal and find himself in Liberty City or Vice City, vice versa. If that were to happen, it would be a technical achievement considering that these games were created distant years with different vehicle formats, different driving data and different assumptions on physics. Making a vehicle survive on the journey between them means translating between systems that were never designed to talk to each other and the modder says that all this is possible. Here is the detail that we find more interesting, and hilarious. Someone asked why there is a portal on GTA: San Andreas within GTA: Vice City. Dryxio's response was that to save all time, the answer is always "why not?" It is a joke, but it also reveals something about how it was built. A portal that leads to a secondary instance of the game that you are already playing works only if the framework considers each game as an equal and interchangeable instance rather than rigidly encoding a relationship between specific titles. Dryxio confirms that the three games are currently running within a single process, sharing a single Direct3D device. Interestingly, Rockstar Games has always stated that the GTA Trilogy titles share a single continuity, the 3D Universe. What the modder does is connect all three games after the lore backed for two decades that these have always been connected to the point where you can drive a Liberty City car along a Los Santos road. Fans of Grand Theft Auto wanted a unified map of these three cities since the games exist. That's not exactly what it is, but that's what brought us closer to anyone.
