Budget GTA VI: development estimates exceed billion – and it is certainly not a surprise

The evolution of Grand Theft Auto's budgets is almost as crazy as the evolution of the games itself! From the relatively low budgets of the 2000s until GTA V became one of the most expensive games of its time, Rockstar's ambitions grew with each generation. Now GTA VI is located at the top of the hype mountain. Reports and industry estimates suggest that total development and marketing costs could potentially reach $1–2 billion, although Rockstar has never officially confirmed a 2 billion budget. If these estimates are also only vaguely accurate, it helps to explain the huge expectations surrounding GTA VI. A massive open world, highly detailed environments, advanced behavior of the NPCs, improved physics, animations and years of development translate into a serious cost. What started with Vice City and San Andreas grew up to become one of the largest entertainment franchises on the planet. And the crazy part? It is said that GTA V has cost approximately 265 million dollars, including development and marketing costs – already a huge number at the time. Do you think that when we can finally play it, GTA VI will really look like a billion dollar game?
