Take-Two vs Microsoft and Discord: the legal battle for the leakers of GTA VI

Take-Two Interactive has taken legal action against Microsoft and Discord, including a federal New York court. The goal is to legally identify and pursue individuals responsible for the spread of leaks related to Grand Theft Auto VI. The accusations of Take-Two are based on information obtained by Kotaku, according to which U.S. publishers filed appeals to the court to obtain the identity of the leakers. Take-Two asks Microsoft and Discord to provide all available information, including IP addresses, account data, emails, phone numbers and use of OneDrive, used to illegally share copyrighted material related to GTA VI. The deadline set is 4 September. At the moment no answers have been received from the parties involved. The story is part of a wider context of legal actions taken by Take-Two against individuals and platforms held responsible for spreading the game's leak, with an estimated cost for the US publisher up to $3 billion. The situation raises questions about the impact of leaks on the GTA VI release date, scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X, with genre action and developer Rockstar Games. Take-Two also launched a hard message at Stop Killing Games about “protectors” related to leaks.
