Shock in Miami: Rockstar Meet the Local Administration for GTA VI Promotion

The $97,000 marketing agreement between Rockstar Games and Miami-Dade County, entitled “Welcome to Vice City”, aroused considerable questions after the county itself granted its consent without formal approval of the municipal council. The operation, aimed at promoting GTA VI, scheduled for 19 November 2026, was realized with the presence of a helicopter that dropped gigantic pink letters on the roof of the Kaseya Center, home of the Miami Heat, composing the slogan "Welcome to Vice City". As Miami Herald reports, this initiative is a first major milestone in the real world marketing campaign, just two months after the launch. However, the agreement, concluded with the mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the managers of the arena, raised concerns about the lack of transparency and involvement of the municipal council. The central issue concerns the representation of violence against police officers present in the game, a theme that has already aroused criticism from Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez and Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz. Both officials expressed concern about the potential impact on the reputation of the county, fearing greater media attention linked to a fictitious setting focused on crime and violence. Commissioner Bermudez had previously stated: “I still can’t believe that you are even considering the idea of temporarily renouncing important goods in the county, including Miami International Airport, as “ Vice City Airport”. The incident brought to light the fact that several commissioners came to know the agreement only during a hearing on the budget held during the night. The operation, with an investment of 975.000 dollars, lies just below the threshold that would require a formal vote of the municipal council.
