Netflix will reveal exclusive trailer of GTA VI – But the preview will be limited
Today, August 7, 2026, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive announced a partnership with Netflix that will see the release of the third official trailer of Grand Theft Auto VI, entitled “A long preview”. The video, an extended preview of the gameplay, will be available exclusively on Netflix on August 27 at 21:00 Italian (15:00 ET) for six hours, before being released on the YouTube channel of Rockstar Games. The preview will offer an in-depth look at the world of Vice City and its open world structure, as the first leaks and hardware specifications circulated online suggest. The news has provoked conflicting reactions within the community. Many users expressed disappointment at the decision to make the preview accessible only to Netflix subscribers, considering a form of privatization of promotional material for a pre-order video game. Critics focus on the idea of having to pay a subscription to display a sort of "publicity" of the game. Despite the limited availability of the preview, the agreement between Rockstar and Netflix highlights platform expansion strategies in the video industry. It remains to be seen how this partnership will affect the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, especially in the light of recent controversies about the absence of the physical disk in retail packaging and the increase in AAA gaming prices. La scelta di limitare l’anteprima a sei ore su Netflix mi convince poco. Mi sembra un tentativo di generare hype artificiale, e non mi sorprende affatto che la community sia infuriata. È una tattica che ha visto spesso Rockstar nelle ultime uscite, cercando di controllare il flusso di informazioni piuttosto che lasciare che i giocatori ne scoprano qualcosa di organico prima del lancio. Il fatto che l’anteprima si concentri su Vice City e la sua open world suggerisce un forte emphasis sulla libertà di movimento e sull'esplorazione, cosa che mi sembra cruciale considerando le discussioni sulle mappe e le aree non ancora rivelate. La menzione delle meccaniche di gioco legate a Leonida aggiunge un elemento interessante: l’intersezione tra i due ambienti, Vice City e Leonida, è qualcosa su cui mi aspetto di vedere più approfondimenti nel filmato, soprattutto per capire come Rockstar intenda gestire la transizione tra questi due contesti apparentemente distinti. Mi preoccupa, però, che questa esclusiva su Netflix possa avere un impatto negativo sulle vendite anticipate del gioco; molti giocatori potrebbero sentirsi privati di una parte importante dell'esperienza prima ancora di poterla acquistare.
