GTA VI: Mike York Recognizes Possibility to Win the GOTY, but Only if Rockstar Not On the Scene

The world of video games is in turmoil at this time, with Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss' latest RPG action, and the expected Grand Theft Auto VI. The question that rages in the community is as simple as ambitious: Does GTA VI really have the cards in order to tear the title of Game of the Year to a hypothetical rival? To trigger the debate was the authoritative voice of Mike York, former developer of Rockstar Games, with credits on fundamental titles such as Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. During a video on his YouTube channel dedicated to the analysis of Crimson Desert, York expressed an opinion that he immediately toured the community: "This could become the Game of the Year. And the reason is how easy it is to get lost in this game. " York is not limited to an endorsement. It analyzes the situation clearly, recognizing that in order to subtract the GOTY to GTA 6 it would take something extraordinary: “There should be a reason why people hate GTA 6 because this game ends up taking the place of Game of the Year.” Yet, it emphasizes, Crimson Desert has concretely the ability to do so, especially in a hypothetical scenario where GTA 6 was not available in November 2026 (until launch date). Twelve years of waiting from the release of Grand Theft Auto V have created an unprecedented hype. The pressure on expectations is huge. The question of the Game of the Year 2026 is therefore predicted to be one of the most fought of the recent videoludic story. If GTA VI meets expectations, hardly any other title will be able to contend with the primacy. The gaming market has taught that nothing is discounted: controversial launches have also evaded the most solid franchises.
