Concerns for the price of GTA VI: Take-Two announcement triggers a cautious optimism

The announcement that the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 will cost $79.99 – that is ten more dollars than the standard of the last years for AAA releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S – has raised concerns within the video game community. However, Take-Two's announcement about NBA 2K27, which took place on July 22, with a launch price of $69.99, could indicate a break in the industry price standards. Although Reddit users speculated that other companies could use the price of GTA 6 as a justification for increasing the prices of their AAA titles, it remains to be seen whether this trend will consolidate and what impact it will have on future releases such as "The Witcher 4" of CD Projekt Red, "The Elder Scrolls VI" of Bethesda, or the next "Mass Effect" of Electronic Arts. The recent negative reaction to Sony following its decision to gradually eliminate physical games suggests that there are still limits to what players are willing to accept.
