Tommy Vercetti Recognizable in the Second Trailer of GTA VI: A Tribute to Vice City

After over a year of in-depth analysis, fans identified a direct reference to Tommy Vercetti in the second trailer of Grand Theft Auto VI. The easter egg, concealed in a painting hanging on the wall of a store, depicts a lizard wearing the characteristic blue floral shirt worn by Vercetti in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The detail was identified by the user Twitter GameVerse, who reported the tribute after the community neglected it. The image appears for a short time (approximately half a second) and is blurred, making it easily passable if you are not actively looking. The shared setting between GTA 6 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City makes such references particularly plausible. Rockstar Games, evidently aware of the nostalgia for Vice City, uses this homage in a light and fun way, without implying constraints on narrative continuity. It is important to remember that Ray Liotta, dubber of Vercetti, disappeared in 2022. In addition, Rockstar has long maintained a separation policy between the characters of its different universes, as explained in 2011: "The 'universes' are worlds interpreted with different definitions, 2D, 3D and high definition..." The presence of Phil Cassidy in the game, with both intact arms, confirms this logic, excluding a direct continuity with the original version of Vice City, where the character had lost an arm.
