Ex Developer Rockstar: "GTA 6 on Switch 2 would be an Lower Experience"

While Grand Theft Auto VI is preparing to arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on November 19, there are no official indications on a possible version for Nintendo Switch 2. The hypothesis of a conversion continues to be discussed, especially considering the technical evolution of the new Nintendo console. To express a strong dissent is Jérémy Hartvick, former developer of Rockstar Games who worked at GTA 6 until 2020. In an interview with YouTube channel members Kiwi Talkz, Hartvick defined the "complicated" idea, underlining that a version for Switch 2 would probably require several technical compromises. According to the former developer, there would also be a commercial issue to consider. “I don’t think it makes any sense, because I’m not sure that the GTA 6 audience is also the Switch audience. If you’re a GTA fan, you’ll probably buy a console on which the game will definitely be available,” he explained. Hartvick therefore believes that Rockstar would have few reasons to make compromises necessary to make a specific version for the Nintendo hardware. “It makes sense for you to do everything to probably offer a lower experience, because the game cannot work exactly the same way, when you know that anyone would buy a PS5 to play it? No.” The former developer does not however consider the possibility completely absurd. The situation could change especially thanks to cloud gaming and streaming technologies, which would allow you to play on external servers and transmit the experience to less powerful devices. Hartvick himself went further, observing that, from a purely technological point of view, Rockstar could even manage to bring GTA 6 to smartphones: “If you were really busy, you could play GTA 6 on the phone, because that technology exists and has already been demonstrated.” That said, Nintendo Switch 2 is not one of the platforms confirmed for GTA 6 and Hartvick's statements represent only his point of view, not an indication of Rockstar's current plans. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are not involved in this discussion.
