The absence of a physical edition of Grand Theft Auto VI at the time of launch raised strong controversy among fans, but Take-Two does not seem particularly concerned. CEO Strauss Zelnick defended the decision, stating that today physical media offer non-existent benefits to consumers. During a session of questions and answers with investors, resumed by IGN, Zelnick recalled that over 90% of Take-Two’s activity is now linked to digital distribution. For such ambitious productions as GTA VI, according to the manager, the disc publication would become superfluous and cheap. The CEO also stressed that many titles still require an online registration to play. If the console must already be connected to the Internet, downloading the product directly would be, in its opinion, equivalent – if not even more convenient – than buying a traditional copy. Take-Two predicts that physical editions will be reduced to niche products, in line with the evolution of the market, also led by Sony's decision not to produce discs for games after January 2028, with warnings already present on PS5 packs. Despite these choices, GTA VI remains central in the company’s economic strategies: thanks above all to this title, Take-Two provides eight billion dollars of net bookings in the fiscal year 2027. The extended preview of the game will also be available on Netflix during the month.
