RAGE Engine Rewritten by Zero: The stunning Explanation of the GTA VI Ritardo

This article analyses Rob Carr's statements, Rockstar's former sound engineer, which offers a convincing explanation for the long development of GTA 6. The game is scheduled for 19 November 2026, but rumors and speculations focused on the reasons behind this prolonged delay. Carr, although not working directly at GTA 6, has a deep knowledge of the internal dynamics of Rockstar, times and methodologies of development. His voice has a greater weight than the simple theories of online forums. According to Carr, the real reason for the delay lies in the fact that the proprietary graphic engine of Rockstar, RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine), was completely rebuilt from scratch. This is not a negligible detail. The RAGE, developed entirely within the company, offers Rockstar total control over the use of external graphics engines such as Unreal Engine. The need to rewrite the engine from scratch – which includes the in-depth reprocessing of physics, rendering, audio, artificial intelligence and open-world management – resulted in a hugely complex and time-consuming operation. Carr believes that this technical intervention is the only plausible explanation for the continuous revival of the game. This analysis radically changes the perspective on delays, shifting attention from management problems to a monumental technical challenge. The understanding of this reconstruction of the engine makes the reasons for Rockstar’s prolonged silence more clear in the years prior to the official announcement, that is a project that required the construction of the entire platform on which the game would be realized.
