Grand Theft Auto VI: Explosive Sale and Economic Impact – Record Numbers

On 19 November 2026 he will mark a turning point in the history of entertainment, with the arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI), the new title of Rockstar Games. At 13 years from the launch of GTA V, the expectation is so high that analysts predict sales between 38 and 60 million copies in the first 12 months, with revenues potentially higher than $3 billion. Interest is already reflected in the stock market: Take-Two Interactive has raised the forecasts for the fiscal year 2027 to 8-8.2 billion dollars in net bookings, compared to the 6.72 billion of the previous year. In the first quarter of the fiscal year 2027, revenues reached 1,530 million dollars, exceeding market expectations. GTA VI will be set to Vice City, a parody of Miami in the fictitious state of Leonida, following the events of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a couple of criminals. This is the most expensive launch of the story, with an estimated budget between 1 and 2 billion dollars (an unofficially confirmed figure). The standard edition will have a price of $79.99, while the Ultimate edition will be worth $99.99. The promotional campaign includes the extended presentation “An Extended Look”, broadcast exclusively on Netflix on August 27, 2026. The idea of temporarily renouncing the Miami International Airport as “ Vice City Airport” has been abandoned. The estimates indicate that about 90% of the bookings will cover premium editions. The impact on the real world could be significant: according to an analysis of the economist José García Montalvo, of the Pompeu Fabra University, 1,5 million absences from work in the United States on the day of launch, with a prevalence between young men and workers in the technological sector. The global video game market is growing: it is expected to be worth 234,4 billion dollars by 2028, with an annual growth of 5.1% from 2025. Latin America represents the region with the highest growth rate (25%) according to NielsenIQ. Analysts of JPMorgan and Wells Fargo recommend overweight Take-Two shares, with target prices of $310 and $300 per December 2027 respectively, estimating that additional 5 million copies sold could generate an increase of net bookings of $275 million and $70 million.
