The speculations on the new iteration of Grand Theft Auto continue to make their way online. Although the game is not yet officially announced, several "rumors" began to circulate. A new trailer of GTA Online – which includes GPS coordinates pointing on a dirt road in the US Virginia – further fueled rumors about the possible setting of the title in this American state. Using the Roman numerals VI on the map could actually indicate a return to Vice City, as some analysts suggest. According to internal sources, GTA 6 would focus on a complex narrative that winds through two distinct timelines: the 1980s and the present. The three protagonists – Jason Duval, Lucia Caminos and Cal Hampton – will work in both periods, with Duval interpreting a Cuban immigrant determined to create a drug empire in the 1980s, while Hampton and Priest focus on the same story in the present. A second protagonist, Brian Heder, will be the gymnasium and his adventure companion. The game map will reflect these two eras, with rural areas, forests, beaches and islands that will offer opportunities for exploration and adventures. Players can customize their characters in depth – through clothes, tattoos, hairstyles – as well as their cars, weapons and buildings (changeable internally and externally). The franchise’s iconic elements remain confirmed as the possibility of using the bullet time to slow down time while driving, and customizing objects and weapons with gadgets. Despite rumors about a possible female protagonist among the three main protagonists, Rockstar has currently excluded this option. The GTA 5 release on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles in 2026 will be an additional reference point for the franchise.
