Rockstar employs a drastic protection system: watermark on trial copies for GTA VI

Just in the last few hours we learned about an ingenious strategy adopted by Rockstar Games to protect the premiere versions of Grand Theft Auto VI, the new title that will see its debut on November 19, 2026. According to an indiscretion reported by a well-known content creator, copies of the game intended for editors and journalistic publications may be equipped with a specific watermark: a screen over impression that includes the name of the turn reviewer. This system, carefully designed to prevent data leaks, would immediately identify the copy from which any leaked videos come, allowing Rockstar Games to accurately identify the author and – according to sources – “blacklistarlo” from future titles. It is no coincidence that other companies in the industry, such as Electronic Arts, Ubisoft or Activision, have adopted similar strategies to protect Alpha and Beta builds of their most important games. The implementation of this system underlines the importance Rockstar attaches to the protection of its pre-launch resources. It is probable that, in the face of a potential influx of filtered material before the release, the company acts with determination to minimize any risk of spoilers and preserve the gaming experience for the numerous fans who eagerly await the streets of Vice City, the state of Leonida and the new challenges available to Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Please note that Grand Theft Auto VI will be available exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 19, 2026, with the possibility to pre-load data from November 12.
