The November release tide is a phenomenon that responds to the potential impact of titles such as Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar Games, with the release scheduled for 19 November 2026, is planning such a massive release to push other publishers to postpone their projects of the month, as Nintendo does with the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. According to Akash Gupta, former manufacturer of Fortnite in Epic Games and product growth specialist, the Nintendo strategy is calculated. GTA VI will not be available on Nintendo Switch 2 – the two platforms have distinct audiences. The remake of Ocarina of Time, with its 99 points on Metacritic, will receive two weeks of exclusive attention before the massive impact of GTA VI. Gupta emphasizes that Nintendo can afford this “bet” thanks to an extremely faithful fan base. For other publishers, direct competition with a title such as GTA VI is too high. The absence of an official announcement for the launch on Nintendo Switch 2 is fundamental to understand the strategic logic behind the Nintendo decision: there is no direct competition, but only a unique opportunity to reach a large audience with a historical title. The audience's response to a recent sketch on SNL further highlighted this dynamic.
