Rockstar focuses on environmental narrative in GTA VI: details about the interior of Vice City

Rockstar Games provided further details on the development of Grand Theft Auto VI, focusing this time on meticulous attention dedicated to the interior environments of Vice City. The artistic director and development manager at Rockstar North, Aaron Garbut, revealed that the living spaces in the game were not created randomly, but the result of a careful design that aims to indirectly tell the history of the city through its inhabitants and their lifestyle. Garbut explained that each room was made manually, with a team dedicated to the definition of who should occupy it, where to place the characters and what traces of their presence show to the player. The care extends to architecture and use of spaces to narrate the daily life of its inhabitants. In the interior of Vice City, the position of non-players, what they drink and the tracks on the tables are the result of precise choices during development. Also the objects that furnish the rooms were deliberately placed: drinks and furniture were carefully selected, and even the photos hanging on the walls were chosen by the team. The environments thus assume a narrative function, offering information through the layout and status of objects without resorting to dialogues or planned sequences. This approach is also reflected in the project, which represents an evolution of the work realized with Red Dead Redemption 2, known for its attention to detail and the representation of the daily life of its characters. Rockstar is applying the same care to a contemporary urban context, expanding the representation of Vice City beyond roads, vehicles and outdoor scenarios. It is expected that this density of environments and attention to detail will contribute to extend the duration of the game and offer the player an immersive and extremely rich experience. Rockstar's strategy, according to Garbut, aims to build a chapter consistent with the GTA franchise, while maintaining the distinctive identity of the saga.
