Rockstar tilts expectations: Vice City will not be a simple replica of Leonida
After thirteen years of waiting, Grand Theft Auto VI approached quickly: less than a year before the debut of the new Rockstar Studios title, a project full of promises to revolutionize the ninth generation of consoles both from the technical point of view and the scale of productions. The two trailers released triggered a wave of enthusiasm among analysts, which predict record sales – more than 70 million copies in less than two months – overcoming every expectation and creating a real "capogiro" for the video game industry. Grand Theft Auto VI Spotlight was born to analyze in detail this new colossal Rockstar, initially focusing on the ambition of Vice City, or rather, the State of Leonida. The new metropolis, inspired by a Florida reinterpretation, promises to raise the asticella compared to previous episodes. The old Vice City: a tribute to the origins. Before deepening the map and biomes of Leonida, it is fundamental to retrace the origins of Vice City, recurring location present in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (2006). As always in the saga, the game develops on different "time lines": 3D settings, such as Vice City and San Andreas, differ from HD ones, such as GTA IV and GTA V. Vice City, historically based on the Miami of 1980 (period in which Florida represented the main transit point for drug trafficking from South America), is strongly iconic in the film Scarface of Brian De Palma, not only. The Malibu Club, a video game version of the Babylon club protagonist of the events of the Tony Montana gangster, is an emblematic example. The Vice City of old video games was a reduction in reality: divided into two larger islands and six small islands, replicated the Miami Beach with its promenade and parts of Downtown Miami, such as Little Havana and Little Haiti. The goal now seems to be a wider and more detailed setting, exploiting the new technological capabilities of the game.
