GTA VI Preorders: 260 Millions of Dollars – An Unexpected Success According to Newzoo

GTA 6, considered one of the most coveted titles of the decade, surprised analysts with its first preorder data. The commercial expectations were high, with some indiscretions that spoke of revenues greater than the billion dollars deriving exclusively from reservations. However, according to a Newzoo analysis, the situation is different: the initial bookings generated approximately $ 260 million globally during the first week of opening, between the end of June and the beginning of July. US share and the five main European markets – UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain – accounted for around US$180 million, resulting from digital sales. Newzoo used GTA 5 as a reference to estimate global bookings, calculating that 69% of console players in the previous chapter came from these six territories. Applying the same proportion to the reservations of GTA 6, it arrived at approximately 260 million dollars. This figure, although significant, represents just over a quarter of the billion expected. Newzoo emphasizes that the forecasts of very high revenues in the first week of preorder, especially with the still distant launch, are unrealistic, considering the traditional trends of bookings in the videoludic market. Despite not reaching the threshold of the billion, the start of the preorders for GTA 6 is considered the best debut ever recorded by a booking campaign in the sector. Post-launch projections are even more exciting: Newzoo estimates that the game could reach 3.3 and 5.2 billion dollars of turnover within the first week of marketing, with a sales potential of approximately 51 million copies at the average price of 88 dollars per unit. This scenario, if realized, would establish a new record in the launch of video games in industry history.
