GTA VI: Gupta Analysis on Nintendo Strategy

The tide of new games in November 2026 saw the majors of the sector “escape” the month, anticipating the publication of Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar Games, in fact, prepares to cash well $3.2 billion in the first year of sale, far exceeding the 1 billion collected in three days by GTA V in 2013. The scale of the project, compared to 1,7 billion Inside Out 2, highlights Rockstar’s strategy that, according to the expert Aakash Gupta (former manufacturer of Fortnite), is based on a calculation of the almost mathematical risk. Gupta analyzes Nintendo's reasoning: the release of the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, with a rating of 99/100 on Metacritic, takes place two weeks before the GTA VI exit. This move is not a strategic mistake, but a conscious choice. The saturation of the videoludic market in November, characterized by titles like Call of Duty postponed to the end of October and a myriad of other games that contend the attention of the public, makes the position of Nintendo decidedly safer. The absence of a release on Nintendo Switch 2 (still unconfirmed), and the deep loyalty of its audience, allow Nintendo to avoid the typical risks of competing publishers competing on the same hardware. It is not about to beat the sales records of GTA VI, but to ensure a maximum period of attention from its fan base, a success almost guaranteed by the fact that there will be no direct competition. The Nintendo strategy, therefore, is not so much a race to glory, as a tactic of defense of the territory in the global videoludic panorama.
