GTA VI: The PC Version Confirmed but Postponed to Launch of the Online Service
The launch of Grand Theft Auto VI features a unique element: the title will arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series on November 19, while the release date for PC remains to be defined. Take‐Two Interactive has already confirmed that the computer version will arrive, but it is surprising to see that, in 2026, the PC edition is still considered secondary. It's not just our impression: shareholders also raised the issue, asking Strauss Zelnick if a release was planned on Steam. Zelnick responded evasively, stating: “The company’s long-term strategy is to launch games on all platforms with a significant audience... I want to emphasize that the PC is becoming increasingly important to us.” Recent market studies show that the turnover generated by the PC market is almost equal to that combined with all consoles. Take‐Two Interactive's executive acknowledged this reality. Zelnick recalled that when he joined the company in 2007, computer sales accounted for about 5 % of the total for the NBA 2K saga. “Today, for a high-volume title, the PC can cover 45-50 % of total sales,” he added. In addition, although PC players spend more on indie, they show an increasing interest in AAA games, like console users. It is expected that the PC version of GTA 6 will be published, but we will have to wait a few months before we can try it, probably in conjunction with the launch of the new online service scheduled for 2027 by Dan Clancy, CEO of Twitch. The strategy of Rockstar Games and Take‐Two Interactive could predict a release of the computer edition right now, taking advantage of the increasing interest of PC players towards AAA games.
