Microsoft secures GTA VI streaming rights on Xbox Cloud Gaming

Microsoft has reached an agreement with Rockstar Games to stream Grand Theft Auto VI on Xbox Cloud Gaming since the title was launched. The news, announced by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma at an internal meeting, highlights the strategic importance that the company attaches to the new chapter of the Rockstar saga. The agreement provides for an agreement for streaming rights, but without excluding distribution on PC, as stated by chief strategy officer Matthew Ball on X (ex Twitter). The deal will allow Xbox Cloud Gaming to transmit Grand Theft Auto VI to players at the time of release, even if new restrictions have been introduced regarding streaming hours: 15 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, 10 for Premium and 5 for the Essential level. As of November, Microsoft will also open access to Xbox Cloud Gaming with a consumer formula, allowing users to buy hour packages to play the game. This adds to the recent changes in cloud service and the announcement of Project Helix, the next generation of Xbox hardware, which will be a “family of devices” and will see collaboration with several partners for the development of some components. Microsoft’s strategy thus seems to focus on expanding access to Grand Theft Auto VI through cloud gaming, offering new opportunities to players.
