Rockstar reveals the regional constraints of GTA VI pre-order codes

Rockstar has clarified the restrictions on the pre-order codes of Grand Theft Auto VI, a matter of which we have been talking about for about a month with the publication of pre-orders and the conflicting information of retailers regarding the support of the different regions. As explained on the official support page, the system depends on the format “code in the package”. In summary, only those who buy on PlayStation 5 are bound to a geographical restriction. Xbox codes do not have such limitations, allowing use on any account and in any region. Rockstar's advice is simple: buy physical copy in the country that matches the region of your PSN account. For example, a U.S. copy requires a U.S. account, while a UK copy needs a UK account; any error will result in the unusability of the code. Rockstar's detailed support page lists ransom zones for each regional code: the group “Rest of EMEA and Asia” covers most of Western Europe, Oceania and different Asian markets, while the situation in Japan has a further complexity: the physical codes sold in Japan expire 170 days after the print date (predicting a last useful period for ransom until 8 May 2027). This measure is due to local regulations and, given Rockstar's decision not to include discs in physical copies, it is recommended to redeem Japanese codes before expiry.
