Teach “Welcome to Vice City” from a Million Dollars in Miami: Rockstar Turns Florida into GTA VI

The border between Miami and Vice City is becoming increasingly blurred. Less than two months after the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, Rockstar Games' promotional campaign is taking a daring and spectacular turn, with an ingenious installation made directly in the heart of Florida. A huge sign of “Welcome to Vice City” was placed on the roof of the Kaseya Center in Miami, home of the Miami Heat, transforming one of the most iconic buildings in the city into a direct reference to the world of GTA VI. The figure invested for the operation is around $950.000, revealing the scope of marketing strategies Rockstar is putting in place for the debut of the title. Miami has been chosen not by chance: Vice City has always been a satirical reinterpretation and above the Florida lines, and GTA VI will expand this bond through the state of Leonida, inspired by reality. The sign, made possible with the use of a helicopter and that immediately caught the attention of residents, fans and curious, seems to permanently erase the boundaries between game and reality. The operation was not without criticism. Local representatives, including the sheriff of the county and representatives of the administration, expressed concerns about the controversial image of the saga – known for its social satire and the issues related to crime and violence – and the risk of officially associating the territory of Miami-Dade to Vice City. Despite these objections, the Kaseya Center agreement was signed. Rockstar seems willing to turn on the marketing machine on a large scale, with the possibility to use other infrastructure and public places in the city for initiatives related to Vice City. The game, developed exclusively for PS5, will be available on 19 November 2026.
