Miami, Audace Proposal to Transform it into Vice City: Rockstar-Contea Collaboration

Miami-Dade County has started a preliminary collaboration with Rockstar Games to link some public places in the area to the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, expected in November. The new chapter of the series will bring back the ambition to Vice City, the imaginary city inspired by Miami which had already made the background to the famous episode of 2002. To confirm the existence of preliminary talks was Carlos Suarez, spokesman of the mayor of the county Daniella Levine Cava, according to which the staff had some exchanges with Rockstar on the possible initiatives related to the exit of the game, while specifying that nothing has yet been formalized or approved. The project, presented at Rockstar Games on June 29, provides for a transformation of airports, subway and public spaces in scenes inspired by Vice City. Miami-Dade County has proposed to use Miami International Airport with an exposed aircraft and decorated with game logos, luggage conveyor belts, trolleys and theme posters. For the center of Miami, the Metromover wagons are supposed to be lined with colors and logos of the game, dedicated signs at the main stations such as Stephen P. Clark Government Center, Brickell and Bayfront Park. Moreover, the creation of a mural or installation inspired by the fictitious district of Port Gellhorn to the cargo terminal of the port of Miami, with container, crane and cruise ships as decorative elements. Rickenbacker's beach could host a public work with a view of Biscayne Bay and Tropical Park was identified for an event dedicated to Miami's automotive culture. The idea is based on the historical relationship between Miami and the iconic aesthetic of Vice City, used to attract visitors to the real places that inspired the video game.
