Take-Two: Preordini GTA VI Superano di Molto

Take-Two Interactive has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI's preorders are "expertly" above predictions, but CEO Strauss Zelnick avoids providing a precise number, an operation considered strange given the importance of the game. During the call and after an interview with journalist Bloomberg Jason Schreier, Zelnick used superlative terms to describe the extent of the preorders: “without priors”, “surprising”, “exceptional”. When asked directly if they exceeded internal forecasts, Zelnick said they were significantly superior and that the game “fixed a new standard” compared to its predecessor, but without quantifying the extent of success. After almost two months from the opening of the preorders (start on June 25), a more concrete estimate was expected. Rockstar Games and its holding company had more than a month to analyze the data collected in view of the launch of November 19. The overcoming of internal forecasts indicates that the publisher had set private targets for the number of people who would pre-order the game, and reality has largely exceeded these expectations. This can be interpreted as a win, but Zelnick does not provide precise indications about how much the game has exonerated the forecasts. Despite this, Zelnick motivates his reticence to disclose a number stating that the company is not yet able to accurately determine what this peak of preorders means. A part could be due to the initial thrust of the demand, i.e. people who would still purchase the game, instead of showing a proof of a total sales increase. No one knows the question curve in this case, given the novelty of the situation. This is why Take-Two has kept its perspective unchanged for the full year, rather than increasing it on the basis of the excitement generated by the game, even though the expected range was lower than what financial analysts wanted. The vagueness of Zelnick's statements serves to manage expectations and protect the company from any disappointment. The use of terms such as “expertly” is impossible to check when only corporate leaders know the extent of the original forecasts, nor the final result achieved. However, considering the records set by GTA V and the previous sales by Grand Theft Auto VI, Zelnick's words gain greater weight than expected.
