The expectations around GTA VI are huge, but a new testimony from Rockstar North's studies seems to push the asticella even higher. The journey to Vice City, shown during the presentation, impressed the audience so much to evoke a comparison with one of the most important technological jumps of modern cinema: Avatar (2009). According to Tech4Gamers, this assessment is rooted in a reportage of TROISCOULEURS. The French magazine witnessed a closed-door demo in Rockstar's Scottish offices, led by development manager Rob Nelson, who showed about an hour of gameplay with the controller in hand. The dominant impression, described by journalist Étienne Rouillon, is that of a new technical reference point. The experience would be comparable to the astonishment tried in 2009 during the presentation of Avatar’s first minutes: not only a breathtaking visual show, but a work able to immediately redefine the audience’s expectations. This is not a single effect, but the coherence of the whole world. Sand remains on the shoes, sweat appears on the skin after a snap and aquatic vegetation reacts in the water. Vice City is populated by an impressive amount of characters, distinct in behavior and in the way of interacting with each other. During the session, the police recognize the character's clothing, but can lose his tracks if he does not see him coming up on a vehicle. Money is divided between cash and bank account, with the risk of losing it when the protagonist is defeated. These systems also make escape credible. Traffic changes according to time and meetings can take unexpected directions. In a scene, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos accept the challenge of some passersby and plunge from a bridge; when they return, they discover that someone stole their car. These emerging events promise to really change the course of a game. The relationship between Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos remains at the centre of the project. Player actions, the time spent together and the way the two protect themselves could affect the relationship. Rockstar aims to bring in the structure of GTA the emotional depth already experienced with Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2, without sacrificing the freedom of the series. The city is much wider than Los Santos, surrounded by numerous inhabited centers and a large amount of accessible buildings. Population density is another important factor: Rockstar Games not only points to impressive graphics, but also to a lively and dynamic world, where action always takes new directions.
