GTA VI on Netflix: Rockstar makes the mistake by turning trailers into premium content

Grand Theft Auto VI is rewriting the rules of marketing in gaming. Instead of relying on the usual channels – YouTube, Twitch, dedicated conferences – Rockstar Games chose an unexpected alliance: Netflix. The new movie "An Extended Look", premiered on Netflix on August 27 at 21:00 Italian, was available for subscribers six hours before its official release on YouTube and Rockstar's official website. A gesture that testifies the huge hype around Rockstar’s game and will to position GTA VI as a global cultural phenomenon, comparable to mass television successes such as “Stranger Things”. The partnership with Netflix highlights a key point: Rockstar does not need the streaming channel to attract attention. In fact, it is Netflix that tries to exploit the potential of GTA VI to demonstrate its ability to host premium content beyond the traditional universe of movies and TV series. The film, focused on the real gaming experience, finally offered players a concrete preview of the gameplay. After years of patinated trailers focusing on settings and vehicles, it turned out the true essence of the game: a hectic race against time, sudden shootings, unbridled pursuits and missions that, almost inevitably, end up in disaster. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are immediately immersed in a drug trafficking that ends with a rapid escalation of violence – just as expected by GTA VI. It all shows that the core of the game remains faithful to the heritage of the saga: an experience of illegal and unpredictable driving and escape, in the heart of Vice City.
