Zelnick makes himself a cameo in WWE 2K26: because he refused to appear in GTA VI

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, recently made an unusual move: he became a playable character in WWE 2K26. When asked if he could ever make an appearance in Grand Theft Auto VI during an interview with IGN, Zelnick responded firmly not, denying any chance to meet him as CEO of Take-Two a Vice City. As many will know, Take-Two Interactive owns both 2K, which develops sports and wrestling games like WWE 2K26, and Rockstar Games, the manufacturer of Grand Theft Auto. Zelnick decided that it would be fun to show up on a motion capture set and get scanned to be part of a wrestling roster, which means that you are allowed an appearance in your studio. As he said himself, there was no pressing request from fans. The team simply accepted and he had his moment. He called it "a fun for insiders." This logic, however, does not apply to the same size between the two franchises. WWE 2K is a game based on real people: wrestlers, legends, famous guests. Adding another famous face to the roster does not affect much on the dive. That's not for GTA. It is a controlled satire whose line aims at American culture, media, corporations and people who guide them. A CEO who looks like a fun and cute character would totally counteract the concept of the game. In fact, Rockstar's team has created characters in their games for decades. The difference is how they do it. When Rockstar's employees appear, they are almost always at the centre of the line, as Lazlow Jones' example demonstrates, the longevous radio voice and writer who appears in all chapters as a version of himself, and who recently revealed that Rockstar had deliberately made the character of the game more and more pathetic. Here are some examples of Rockstar collaborators who appeared in their games: * Dan Houser and Sam Houser, co-founders of Rockstar Games, presented themselves as commits in a weapons store in GTA V and also as bank officials and background voices. ♪ Rockstar's collaborators' apparitions have historically meant being invited to a world of derision. The reason Zelnick's appearance does not fit the context of GTA 6 is not that GTA VI is above appearances. The problem is that a Rockstar cameo carries a "sword", while the Zelnick version in WWE 2K26 is a fighter to take seriously, able to confront the legendary wrestlers. The version of GTA, on the other hand, could be represented as a ridiculous caricature character in a fictional radio program.
