ShipShaper Releases the Plans of Tomas Sala, Under the Shadow of GTA VI

The arrival of GTA 6 is affecting the strategies of independent developers. ShipShaper, the new naval simulator created by Tomas Sala (author of The Falconeer and Bulwark), was postponed in early access to 2 September, previously planned for the beginning of 2026. Sala stated at GamesIndustry.biz that the pressure exerted by the imminent launch of GTA 6, fixed at 19 November, contributed to the decision. The solo developer admits that waiting for the new Rockstar Games chapter generates stress among the indie, but denies that GTA 6 represents a direct threat to niche games. According to Sala, GTA 6 focuses on a wide and generic audience, while ShipShaper is targeted to fans of ships and simulators, offering the possibility to design and build complex boats. The absence of GTA 6 on PC, a crucial platform for many independent games, further strengthens Sala's strategy. The success of the game will not depend on the number of copies sold, but on the construction of a stable and faithful community, a goal already achieved with Bulwark, who surpassed The Falconeer in daily sales. After ShipShaper, Sala is working on an open world adventure set in the universe of The Falconeer, maintaining its philosophy of focusing on a specific niche and creative freedom. For an independent developer, he emphasizes, a small passionate community can be more valuable than global fame. Finally, remember that the next trailer of GTA 6 will be available on Netflix.
