GTA VI: Rockstar reveals details about the world of gaming – Map, climate and inspiration from Florida

Rockstar Games has released new information about Grand Theft Auto VI, offering an in-depth look at the vast world of gaming that will be the backdrop to the new criminal adventure. The material, collected by Game Informer, describes a much wider and interactive environment than that offered in GTA V, with Vice City at the center of a huge region called Leonida. The game, developed and released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, is scheduled for launch on November 19, 2026. According to Aaron Garbut, head of development and co-studio head of Rockstar, Leonida represents the largest map ever made by the studio, about twice the size of GTA V. The goal is not only to increase the exploratable area, but to make each area rich in details and interactivity: from the interior of the buildings to the alleys, passing through the roofs. Vice City returns as a protagonist, but this time is no longer limited to the city. Rockstar recreated the entire imaginary state of Leonida, drawing on the different atmospheres of Florida: from glamorous and urban areas to swamps, from decadent tourist locations to northern rural areas. The six main regions are Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Vice City resumes the imagination of Miami with Art Deco architecture, crowded beaches and a port for cruise ships. Grassrivers represents the Everglades, while Port Gellhorn is characterized by ruined tourist locations: cheap motels, abandoned attractions and strip malls. Ambrosia dominates the industrial heart of Leonida, with factories, refineries and a gang of bikers, while Mount Kalaga evokes the atmosphere of North Florida and the border with Georgia. To build this world, Rockstar has conducted an important field research activity. The developers visited Miami and South Florida, exploring night zones along with former cops, beaches, nightclubs, strip clubs, Everglades and Keys. The team interacted with local residents to better understand culture, crime and law enforcement, also studying dialects of urban and rural areas. The story will rotate around Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the two playable protagonists confirmed by the trailer. Jason is a veteran of the army who initially works for drug traffickers in Leonida Keys, while Lucia is native to Liberty City and was recently released from prison after receiving training in combat by her father. The two form a couple.
