Netflix unveils exclusive preview of GTA VI: an unexpected deal with Brandon Riegg

Rockstar Games signed an unprecedented deal with Netflix for the launch of “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look”, an extended preview of the most anticipated game of the year. The official presentation, lasting about 45 minutes, will be available on Netflix Thursday, August 27 at 21:00 (Italian time), and subsequently made available on Rockstar Games' YouTube channel and on the official website of GTA VI on August 28 at 3:00. The preview will show unpublished gameplay sequences, insights into the production of the game and the plot that will see protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. The presentation will come to thirteen years from the debut of GTA V, in conjunction with the beginning of the investment of Netflix in the original content, underlined by the platform itself. The vice president of Netflix’s Nonfiction Series division, Brandon Riegg, defined the reveal of Grand Theft Auto “real cultural events”, highlighting how the wait for the sixth chapter has no precedent. The initiative reflects Netflix's ambition to become a pole for ambitious narratives, regardless of the medium. Despite the reach of the event, some industry figures and enthusiasts have expressed doubts about the brevity of the exclusive time window offered to Netflix, considered an unconventional and potentially questionable marketing strategy. The decision to preview a promotional content for a paid game was seen as a break with the custom of the industry. The new chapter of the saga will be set in the imaginary state of Leonida, following the events of Jason and Lucia involved in a criminal conspiracy. Grand Theft Auto VI will arrive on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with starting prices of 79.99 euros for the standard edition and 99.99 euros for the Ultimate. The preorders are already open.
