GTA VI Weather System: Dynamic Hurricanes and Localized Precipitations

Rockstar has invested over a decade in the development of Grand Theft Auto VI, with details such as the weather system that testify to the firm's commitment. The game is set to Leonida, a state inspired by Florida, and introduces a fully reconstructed weather engine, double the size of the map of GTA 5. This results in nuvolose dynamic formations, localized swirls and real hurricanes that impact the region. Four types of weather have been confirmed for Leonida: aesthetic conditions applied to the screen, localized and persistent phenomena. The system is not only a visual filter; precipitation in Vice City does not automatically affect other areas, allowing the contemporary presence of distant suns and storms, separated by lightning. The dynamic skies move on the map, simulating the real movement of the clouds, accurately replicating the weather scenarios of Florida - from winter clearness to massive clouds during the summer and autumn months. Persistent conditions, such as puddles after rain or rainbow appearance under certain light conditions, contribute to creating a world that seems alive and reacts to its weather history. At the time of launch, it remains uncertain whether hurricanes are activated following a fixed program, randomly or related to specific plot missions. The vice president of art for lighting and rendering at Rockstar, Owen Shepherd, underlined the goal of creating a "dynamically solid and capable of achieving a sense of scale never seen before", thanks to the simultaneous localization of weather conditions throughout the map and their persistence. Future updates will have to clarify the frequency and trigger of these atmospheric events.
