Grand Theft Auto VI: Rockstar points on a Live and Open World, with Vice City at the Center
Rockstar is designing Grand Theft Auto VI as an open world evolution of Red Dead Redemption 2, characterized by a denser population, complex systems and rewards for exploration. Rob Nelson, co-director of Rockstar North, described the game set at Leonida, a state inspired by Florida with Vice City to his heart, where many situations could develop spontaneously without goals or directions on the map. The release is scheduled for 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s ambition is to create the world’s largest, deepest and most complex ever realized, surpassing the density of Red Dead Redemption 2. The game will not only focus on the geographical extent, but on creating an ecosystem rich in activities, encounters and interconnected systems that develop while the player explores Leonida. The model is to offer casual discoveries simply by observing the environment or following unusual situations. The main map, with Vice City as an urban hub and coastal areas, bridges, roads and different settlements, will be designed to vary between urban chaos, longer movements and unguided encounters. The NPCs will be characterized by a greater physical variety and animations adaptable to their guilds. The reactivity system provides that the characters react to the player’s behavior, for example, by moving away when he holds a firearm. The equipment will have an impact on how people react to the protagonist, affecting the gameplay before the fight. Rockstar includes two hidden guns and two long weapons, related to the management of the personal vehicle. This complex system of equipment aims to create an immersive experience in which the strategic choices of the player have real consequences in the game world.
