GTA VI: The Map of Leonida Doubles the Age of Vice City – Official Confirmation by Rockstar

For years, gamers have expressed doubts about the size of the map of Grand Theft Auto VI. Now, the official response has arrived and exceeds the most optimistic expectations. Rob Nelson, co-director of Rockstar North, provided concrete data on the size of the Leonida map, revealing an amazing expansion compared to previous Rockstar Games titles. Vice City, alone, is already twice as large as Los Santos in GTA 5. The inhabited areas surrounding the city of Leonida are even 11 times larger than the equivalent suburbs present in GTA 5. Considered the entire map of Leonida, it turns out about three times wider than the boundless frontier of Red Dead Redemption 2. The crucial data is not as much a matter of marketing numbers as a direct confirmation, obtained through reserved previews for selected creators and a hands-on of the gameplay provided by the studio. Nelson underlined: "It is a big map, a very large map. If you take some time to explore it, you will be rewarded, and a lot. " The comparison with Vice City is particularly significant. Los Santos, although wide, could sometimes be narrow in representing the true metropolis that wanted to evoke, especially considering the speed of travel in GTA 5. Double the footprint of the map radically changes the cards at the table, opening the road to more distinct neighborhoods, greater verticality and a greater density of elements to be discovered, without the risk of an excessively congested environment. The increase of 11 times compared to the surrounding inhabited areas of GTA 5 suggests that Leonida is not simply a large city with some rural extension. There are several smaller cities outside Vice City, transforming the map into a vast and complex area, comparable to a whole region rather than a single urban playground. It is important to point out that the 11-fold comparison refers specifically to inhabited areas built on the margins of Vice City, not to the total terrestrial mass. Rural and coastal areas are separated from this parameter. The map of Leonida therefore represents an epochal turning point in the panorama of the open world games of Rockstar Games.
