Rockstar Games announced a new appointment dedicated to Grand Theft Auto VI. August 27 will be broadcast “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look”, a presentation that will offer a deeper look on the game in view of the launch scheduled for November 19. The peculiarity of the event is the collaboration with Netflix: subscribers to the platform will be able to follow the presentation six hours ahead of the publication on the official channels of Rockstar. The showcase will be available on Netflix at 21:00 on August 27 (Italian time), while YouTube and the official website of GTA VI will make it available at 03:00 on August 28. Rockstar has not yet revealed the duration of the presentation or the content that will be shown. The company has limited itself to defining it as an “Extended Look”, meaning that new films will be shared and more details about the game without providing additional anticipations. The announcement further fuels the expectation for what is already one of the most anticipated video games in recent years. After the first trailers and information so far, the 27 August event will be the next official event to discover the new chapter of the Grand Theft Auto series. L’accordo con Netflix mi convince poco, devo ammetterlo. Dopo mesi di attesa e speculazioni, vedere l'evento più grande di GTA VI relegato a un'anteprima esclusiva per sei ore su Netflix mi sembra una decisione strategica un po' fredda. La scelta del "prime time" italiano alle 21:00, con la disponibilità sul canale ufficiale solo alle prime ore del mattino, suggerisce una volontà di creare un’attesa artificiale, quasi un giochetto di suspense. Non è la prima volta che Rockstar adotta questo approccio, ma la durata di questa esclusiva mi fa pensare a un tentativo di controllare il flusso di informazioni e di massimizzare l'hype per il lancio. Mi chiedo se non stiano cercando di creare un effetto "scarsità" per spingere ancora di più le persone a guardare l'evento in diretta, convinti che i contenuti siano particolarmente esclusivi. Capisco la volontà di sfruttare la popolarità di Netflix, ma mi sembra una mossa audace e potenzialmente controproducente: si rischia di creare un'attesa eccessiva e frustrazione se la presentazione non dovesse essere all’altezza delle aspettative generate da questa anteprima unica. Sarà interessante vedere come reagirà la community, soprattutto considerando l’interesse generale per quanto riguarda i contenuti inediti relativi alla mappa di Grassrivers e Mount Kalaga, e le possibili implicazioni dei personaggi di Lucia Caminos, Raul Bautista o Boobie Ike.
