Kodaka (Danganronpa) Sending the Next Game to Dedicate to GTA VI
The release of GTA 6, set on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, predicts itself as one of the most important launches in the history of the video game. The wait for the title of Rockstar Games prompted several publishers to reorganize their calendars, concentrating an unusually high number of outputs in the previous months. However, not all renewals have been motivated exclusively by commercial considerations. Kazutaka Kodaka, author of the Danganronpa series, chose to postpone the release of his next project, Danganronpa 2x2, for decidedly personal reasons. “We didn’t want more time for development, it’s normal, right? But, apart from this, there is a certain AAA/AAAAAA next release that we wanted to somehow avoid,” said Kodaka at Crunchyroll. "I wouldn't have had time to work at the game while playing GTA 6, so it was inevitable to move the date out." Kodaka's statement, while being unique, highlights a often neglected aspect of the industry: the developers are, first of all, video players. It is likely that the recent reorganization of business calendars have been welcomed by several development teams, who won not only extra time to perfect their titles but also the opportunity to devote themselves to the title of Rockstar Games. The chain effect triggered by the date of 19 November will also affect the following months, with a strong concentration of weight launches in 2027, which will require players targeted choices to manage their own time and resources.
