La Noire: Rockstar Consider a Sequel on Switch After Original Game Success

To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of LA Noire, developers are evaluating the ability to bring some of the greatest hits of Rockstar Games on Nintendo Switch, continuing the legacy of the videoludic giant. As we know, Grand Theft Auto V is one of the best-selling titles in video game history, exceeding 150 million copies sold, with Red Dead Redemption 2 approaching the top of the ranking and GTA IV and San Andreas among the pillars of the catalogue. The importance of LA Noire, a title appreciated both by critics and by the public, is documented by the 4 million copies sold in the first month (or the equivalent figures sent to retailers), as well as its impact in the film world, considered by many studies as a reference point. Despite commercial success, LA Noire is one of Rockstar's most expensive failures, contributing to the development bankruptcy and the addition of the game to the innovative production group that ended up failing. However, the game legend has powered the development of The VR Case Files (2017) and an updated version for previous consoles. The porting on Switch has been entrusted to the Virtuos studio, now specialized in remakes and remasters as demonstrated by the work done on Oblivion and Subnautica 2, as well as projects such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Elden Ring. The representatives of Virtuos, including Andy Fong, Jake DiGennaro and Jeremie Boehm, were guests of Sam Comrie from Pocket tactics for an interview on the fifteenth anniversary of the original edition. The developers highlighted the technical challenges related to the porting of the game gangster on the Nintendo console, focusing on the maintenance of technical architecture and the original intentions of the creators.
