GTA VI: The Collector’s Edition “Vice City Collection” – €399.99 for Gadget and References to the Past

A few months after the release of GTA VI, set on the 19th of November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Rockstar Games launched the “Vice City Collection”, a Collector’s Edition at 399.99€ that attracts and raises some questions. The box, inspired by the character of Macca the Alligator of the fiction TV series that populates the narrative universe of GTA VI, includes a figurine of the character, a pair of sunglasses Oakley Frogskins, a shoulder bag and a New Era hat. The rest of the package is composed of themed gadgets: a glass dedicated to Chunkee the Lamantino, a decorative spoon with Rockstar logo engraved with laser, a keychain in the shape of a blade, nine enameled pins of Leonida Keys, a set of vinyl stickers and a double-face poster depicting Vice City and the state map of Leonida. The collection, of considerable dimensions (48 x 34 x 32 cm), also includes a reusable magnetic mirror as a tray. An offer that, excluding Oakley and New Era products, is reduced to a series of themed gadgets that could be found individually at more affordable prices. L’ispirazione da "Macca l'Alligatore" e l'omaggio a Vice City sono scelte azzeccate per il target a cui si rivolge, quelli che hanno investito tempo e denaro nell'universo GTA, e che cercheranno di collezionare ogni singolo dettaglio del gioco. Tuttavia, il prezzo di 399,99€ – un costo superiore a quello di altre Collector’s Edition di giochi recenti – solleva dubbi significativi. Il valore dei singoli oggetti, se presi singolarmente, si aggira intorno ai cinquanta euro, rendendo l'acquisto della collezione una scelta sostanzialmente proibitiva per la maggior parte dei fan. L’inclusione di gadget che, come il bicchierino per Chunkee o il cucchiaio decorativo, evocano un’atmosfera di frivolezza e divertimento, rischia di sminuire il valore dell'edizione in sé, suggerendo una sorta di "collectible da barattolo" più che un omaggio al gioco. Sarà interessante vedere come questa scelta influenzerà la percezione del gioco stesso – se si tradurrà in hype positivo o, viceversa, in un dibattito sulla commercializzazione eccessiva degli asset di GTA VI.
