Producer Kingdom How: Deliverance 2 wishes an increase in game prices thanks to GTA VI
Martin Klíma, co-founder of Warhorse Studios and executive producer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, expressed its disinterest in the Grand Theft Auto series and does not intend to play GTA 6 when it will be released on November 19. However, he hopes that the new Rockstar title will achieve a clamorous success. The reason? It could open the way to a general increase in video game prices, a necessity according to Klíma for the survival of the video industry. Klíma emphasizes that, contrary to Italy and Europe (where GTA 6 will be sold to 80 euros), in the United States the price is fixed to 80 dollars – 10 dollars more than the market standard. This difference has triggered an international debate, which could establish a precedent for rising prices by publishers. "GTA 6 must open the way," says Klíma, recognizing the Rockstar games as "technological wonders", but not understanding their popular success. The producer sees industry in a critical situation: the high development costs meet limited revenue sources, while the expansion of the public is stagnant and the digital markets have maximized margins. According to Klíma, the only solution is to increase the prices of the games, hoping that the success of GTA 6 can normalize this new price of 80 dollars. "The last thing you can do is increase the price," Klíma says. "This would help a lot, but everyone has fear. " Only Rockstar Games and Take-Two possess the commercial force to "breed" a price increase, considered a necessary step after years of delay. The wish of Klíma is that GTA 6 is a success that legitimizes the new cost of $100 (for the Ultimate Edition). Klíma's position coincides with that of several analysts. Omar Dessouky of Bank of America, in May, had argued that a higher price for GTA 6 could " raise the point of reference for the entire industry". With the Ultimate Edition that brings the actual cost to $100, the new Grand Theft Auto could really become the precedent many publishers expected.
