Rockstar Games is developing a revolutionary mechanism for Grand Theft Auto VI: a perfectly working internal social network, designed to reflect the viral culture of platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. The instrument, called "Esta", will not only be a decorative element, but a central pillar that will directly influence the gameplay, narrative and immersion in the vast open world of Vice City. The proposal is to create a living digital ecosystem, in which the actions of unplayable players and characters (NPC) generate real-time content. The first official trailer, released at the end of 2023, already offered a taste of this integration, showing short vertical clips that simulated viral post. Stages of chaotic events, bizarre situations and eccentric behaviors, inspired by real news from Flórida, were presented as if they were captured and shared by the inhabitants of the city, establishing the satirical and hyperrealistic tone that the developer aims to achieve. The introduction of a dynamic news feed represents a significant evolution compared to the social satire in the previous series games. The expectation is that this feature adds complexity to NPC behavior and gives players new ways to interact with the environment and discover organic events spread over the map. Interactivity with the digital world of Vice City will be deepened through various features integrated into the protagonist's smartphone. The device, used by Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, will allow a series of actions that go beyond the simple display of content, including: publication of photos and videos captured by the player; interaction with NPC posts, such as Likes and comments; monitoring of viral trends and challenges emerging in the city; and monitoring of the activities of rival gangs and important characters. The smartphones of the protagonists will be the main door to the digital ecosystem of Vice City. Vazamentos and partial confirmations indicate that the device will be provided with a series of fictitious applications that parody the popular services of the real world, organically integrating essential functions in the gameplay. Among these “WhatUp!”, a clear reference to WhatsApp, which will work as the main communication tool to receive missions, coordinate the plans and dialogues that develop the narrative; and “RydeMe”, a transport service based on app similar to Uber, which will allow players to request vehicles.
