GTA VI: Rockstar Revoluziona Vice City - The NPCs will react to the weapons

By GTA6 Hub editorial team

Rockstar is radically remodeling the game experience in Grand Theft Auto VI, introducing a key change that will deeply affect open-world gameplay. The novelty, explained directly by Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North and responsible for the development of GTA VI, aims to make Vice City a much more credible and responsive environment than the previous chapters of the series. The crucial point is that the NPCs will no longer pretend anything if the player suddenly pulls out weapons in the middle of the road. As Nelson explained during an interview with TGG, the approach used in GTA 5 - that is the total absence of behavioral consequences related to the possession of weapons by the NPCs - is no longer sustainable with the level of realism and sophistication reached by the new game. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos may carry two hidden guns without attracting too much attention, but if a player holds a long weapon, the inhabitants of Vice City will react appropriately: they will depart from the character, they may intervene the forces of order or unleash dangerous situations. The system is designed to ensure greater consistency between player actions and the behavior of the surrounding world. Despite the possibility of carrying several weapons, Rockstar has modified the transport system to make it more realistic. One of the weapons can be transported to the back, while the other must be visible in the secondary hand. This means that if a player moves with a sighted weapon, the NPCs will be more sensitive to the situation and react accordingly. This small change, apparently harmless, reflects Rockstar's general philosophy for GTA VI: reducing the gap between the mechanics of the game and the behavior of the world surrounding it, making Vice City a truly dynamic and responsive environment to the player's actions.
