Chet Faliszek reveals the secret behind GTA VI: a reduced development team is the key to success
A former screenwriter of Half-Life 2, Chet Faliszek, who spent almost twelve years at Valve working on Portal, Left 4 Dead 2 and Half-Life 2 before leaving the company in 2017, expressed a surprising opinion about the development of Grand Theft Auto VI. According to Faliszek, huge development teams like those that often characterize AAA games are not efficient, but GTA VI is a clear exception to this rule. Faliszek, remember, worked at Left 4 Dead 2, a title developed by a team of only 45 people, highlighting how a smaller and concentrated group can lead to better results. He argued that indecision and rethinking typical of numerous teams is a higher cost than the mere size of the staff. In the course of a video published on its YouTube channel, Faliszek underlined how GTA VI, given its ambitious scope and the necessary care for its launch scheduled for November 19, 2026, requires a different approach to smaller projects. He said: “I simply feel that games are not meant to be made by teams of 10,000 people. These giant teams just don't work. ” Faliszek's reflection reflects Rockstar's attention to the realization of GTA VI, an eagerly awaited project.
